La Pineda

Called Spain's Gold Coast, the Costa Dorada
streches from the city of Barcelona to south of Tarragona in the region of
Catalonia.
The Costa Dorada takes its name from the
golden beaches that stretch for almost 150 miles along the calm shores of
Catalunya from Barcelona in the north to Sitges in the south.
The resorts of the Costa Dorada make a perfect base to discover Barcelona,
the historical town of Tarragona and Montserrat - said to be the most
impressive landmark in Spain. It is Spain's theme park area and has the
attraction of having endless miles of golden sandy beaches.
The Port Aventura theme park is a Disney
style entertainment centre which attracts many international
holidaymakers. The Costa Dorada has long been popular with Spanish
tourists escaping the summer heat of Madrid and the traffic of Barcelona.
It only took off as a major international tourist destination after the
opening of Port Aventura in 1995.
There are three main tourist resort centres
on the Costa Dorada - Salou, La Pineda and Cambrils. They all lie
within close vicinity of each other on the coastline nearest to the
Universal Studios theme park at Vila-seca.

on the Costa Dorada, Spain
Salou is the tourist capital of the Costa. it is packed with high-rise
hotels, bars and entertainment of all sorts. The choice of pubs, clubs and
discos here is huge but Salou also has a wide range of water sports and
other leisure activities including golf, para gliding, hiking, cycling and
horse riding. The nightlife in Salou is among the liveliest in Spain.
If you are after a quieter and more family
based resort, La Pineda has safe sandy beaches making it a perfect holiday
spot for families with young children. The resort is the closest to Port Aventura and has the added attraction of the Aquopolis water park right on
the beachfront. Forming part of an almost continuous ribbon of holiday
developments from Salou to Cambrils, La Pineda is a Catalonian resort
where the living is easy.
A mini road train runs between La Pineda and Port Aventura throughout the
day.
Cambrils is a fishing town turned holiday
resort is a seafood lover's dream, with the freshest fish landed daily,
combined with the fruits of the farms and hills - olive oil, chorizo
sausage and fruity wines.

The laid-back resort's chief appeal is its
proximity to a range of excellent, safe and sandy beaches. The town's busy
port is also worthy of inspection, too, with its recently renovated quays
and moorings home to a flotilla of luxury yachts amid the town's fleet of
hardworking trawlers. From here, a path follows the Garbi river inland,
past an ancient sanctuary and watchtower.
Cap Salou is one of the liveliest resorts in
Spain. Children love the beach, funfair, amusements and go-kart track.
At Sitges you could have three holidays
rolled into one here; relax in a quiet cove during the day, visit the
historic quarter for a bohemian dining experience in the evening and then
party till dawn in one of the most fashionable clubbing resorts in Spain.
Getting to Costa Dorada
The nearest international airport is just 15
minutes drive inland at Reus. Barcelona is also just an hour's drive
northeast along the coast.
Markets
There are numerous markets
held along the Costa Blanca. Most are well worth
visiting for fresh produce and souvenirs. The days they
are held vary according to the town. Check at the local
tourist information office.
