there is a man-made rocky beach that shelters between cliffs,
filled with sand imported from Africa.

Playa del Ingles

looking for plenty to do in the surrounding area. The kids will
love the five swimming pools here, two of which have sections

Villas and apartments for rent in Gran
Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain
Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands and is
located in the Atlantic Ocean, 130 miles from the African coast. Las
Palmas, in the north east of the island is its capital.
This holiday island has everything the holidaymaker could wish for from
the cooler north to the sunnier south. There are acres of sand dunes,
mountains, some excellent hotels, clubs, bars and cafés.
Tourism in Gran Canaria is mostly about beaches,
water sports, nightlife and leisure parks.
The south of Gran Canaria is the most popular with tourists. Here you will
find the picturesque village of Puerto de Mogán which is also known as
Little Venice, Puerto Rico, Maspalomas and the famous Playa del Ingles
South Gran Canaria
is where you will find water and theme parks, night clubs, shopping
centres and the most hours of sun.
Tourism has grown
from less than a hundred visitors a year at the end of the 19th century to
11 million visitors per year.
Maspalomas is
amazing - mile after mile of clean, rolling dunes, backed by a lagoon and
nature reserve alive with migrating birds all year round, and washed by
the surprisingly warm waters of the Atlantic. But there are other beaches
- Canteras and San Augustin being two that are particularly worth seeking
out. Gran Canaria fact file

Holidays
on the Costa Blanca, Spain
Playa del
Ingles and its broad expanse of deep golden sands
continue on to meet the dunes of neighbouring Maspalomas,
a Saharan outpost of shifting dunes floating in the
Atlantic. The resort's entertainment centres are
legendary, purpose-built and self-contained
Maspalomas
has miles of rolling sand and is an altogether more
sedate enclave of the coast than neighbouring Playa, but
close enough to enjoy all of that resort's nightlife.
Its lagoon is home to rare and colourful African birds,
and stunning sand dunes extend inland for a kilometre.
You can walk from the quiet streets of Maspalomas to the
bustling promenade of Playa Del Ingles in about 20
minutes.
Puerto
Rico's promenade, two marinas and beach lead to a small,
gently shelving manmade beach with waters ports, and a
collection of pavement cafes and restaurants. A larger
manmade beach at Amadores, a 30-minute stroll round the
coast, offers on a clear day, views of Tenerife.
At the
mouth of the rocky Mogan Valley, where it finally meets
the sea, Puerto Mogan is breathtaking. Grand hotels
cling to the valley's walls. Whitewashed houses line the
streets with the harbour full of gleaming yachts.

Nestling
above a wonderfully long stretch of beach, boasting
breathtaking views of the south of the island is
Meloneras, a quiet and upmarket resort. Along the paved
promenade running the whole length of the shoreline
there is a selection of bars and restaurants offering a
more laidback nightlife.
The beach here is typically quiet all through the week,
the coarse powder sand leads down to a pebbly, clear
shore. In the newly built shopping centre lies the heart
of the action.
Playa
Amadores, sitting in between Puerto Rico and Puerto
Morgan has a glorious man-made beach which is a haven
for tourists. Well protected from the ocean the
extensive sheltered bay boasts golden sands and crystal
clear waters.
Playa
Taurito is situated in a small bay, four kilometres from
the picturesque fishing port of Puerto De Mogan.
The
picturesque fishing port of Puerto de Mogan is probably
the prettiest resort on the south west of the island.
The beach is south facing, it's great for sunbathing and
swimming as its semi-circular shape keeps it well
protected from the Atlantic wind and currents.
Playa Blanca is a peaceful, exclusive resort set in the
south of the island backed by the incredible Timanfaya
National Park. Once a fishing village, it now has one of
the main ferry links to Fuerteventura.
