Small and quieter than its neighbour
Majorca, Menorca is the second largest of the Balearic islands. Situated
just 21 miles from Mallorca, the island of Menorca has many family
orientated resorts.
Menorca has plenty of excellent beach with
good facilities facilities, fine, golden sand and clear, blue waters for
sun lovers.
Some of the best beaches in Menorca lie at the eastern end of the island's
south coast. More beaches are also being developed west of Santa Galdana
and the local Menorca beach resorts of Cala en Bosch and Son Xoriguer are
gaining in tourist popularity.
Many more private, secluded beaches and
coves can still be found in Menorca.
Menorca has been largely protected from
development and is a real haven for nature-lovers. Menorca is a very green
island ad has many pinewoods and fields for the island's thousands
of grazing cattle.
This historic island has lost little of its
easy-going charm. Menorca's 'Taulas' - strange T shaped stone monuments
are remnants of a Bronze Age society who were familiar with the movements
of the stars. Their sturdy stone temples are perfectly aligned with the
major constellations. These, coupled with the island's many other burial
mounds, give Menorca a mysterious air.

on Menorca, Spain
The capital, Mahón, has a number of
buildings dating from the period of British occupation of 1713-83 and
exploring on foot is recommended. It lies three miles from the sea, at the
end of a natural deepwater harbour that Britain fortified and used as a
military base for much of the 18th century. Attractions in Mahon include
the Town Hall (Casa Consistorial), the Church of Santa Maria and the
Church of San Francisco. Trips are available around the harbour.
A good highway links Mahón with the older
town of Ciudadela (the former capital) on the opposite side of the island.
Smaller roads lead off to small villages, farms, and beach resorts. If you
enjoy walking, you still can find unspoiled coves and beaches.

Arenal D'en Castell, protected by a wide,
perfect horseshoe of sand - the arms of two headlands giving the resort
its own favourable microclimate, and keeping its waves gentle enough for
little ones to paddle. The natural harbour even helps calm the winds which
blow across this side of Menorca.
Cala Blanca offers good beaches and a
beautiful setting backed by dense pine woods.
Cala n Bosch, in Menorca's sunny southwest
clusters around a marina, just a few hundred metres from the open sea.
With its impressive yachts and waterside bars,Cala n Bosch feels a little
more upmarket than most Menorcan resorts.
On the outskirts of Ciutadella, the inlet of
Cala n Blanes offers a slice of picture-perfect Menorcan life. The coast
is indented in a series of rocky coves, reminiscent of the impressive
limestone gorges and valleys of Menorca's dramatic interior.
Temperatures in Menorca
Menorca enjoys Mediterranean weather with
mild winters and hot summers. During July and August, the weather is hot
and sunny with nearly 11 hours of sun each day.
Fewer sunny days occur in November, December
and January, when Menorca is at its most quiet although the weather can be
mild on most days.
